Chessagon 2.2

Chessagon presents an intriguing adaptation of traditional chess, played on a hexagonal board composed of dark and light triangles. The game retains all standard chess pieces—King, Queen, Knight, Bishop, Rook, and Pawn—augmented by a novel piece designated as the Duke. This variant adheres to a purist approach to classical rules, adapted to the unique hexagonal layout featuring 96 triangles instead of 64 squares, with movement along six axes rather than four.

The Duke functions similarly to a Bishop or Rook, capable of moving in straight lines across the board. The Knight combines reach and flexibility by allowing moves to any of twelve accessible positions. The Queen synthesizes the powers of the Duke, Bishop, and Rook into a versatile piece. The King maintains its traditional movement, shifting one space in any of twelve directions. To enhance strategic complexity, the number of Pawns has been increased, forming a robust defensive line for each side.

Designed with user-friendliness in mind, the game highlights possible moves at each turn, facilitating ease of learning for new players. An integrated tutorial further explains and demonstrates the movement and capturing mechanics of each piece.

Chessagon offers multiple modes of play, including single-player matches against the computer, local two-player games, and online multiplayer battles. Online matches employ the Glicko rating system to rank players, contributing to a competitive environment.
